JOB DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Program Director will focus on developing and implementing effective chapter-based programming with an emphasis on effective volunteer management, collaborative partnerships and relationship-building with key stakeholders, most notably the student chapter directors and executives. Being part of a small staff team, the individual will work closely with the Executive Director and Development Manager.

Manage and grow of our national campus-based chapter network by:
• Identifying and recruiting Campus Chapter Directors and student leadership for new and existing chapters.
• Supporting MX’s core programs: Skip a Meal, Trick or Eat, Clear the Shelves!, Hunger Awareness Week, Portraits of Hunger, and Hungry Minds.

Mentor and support our national network of student leaders by:
• Helping chapter directors to establish new chapters.
• Providing chapter directors with advice and support related to program delivery and volunteer management.
• Facilitating the sharing of best practices.
• Aiding chapter directors in the establishment of yearly donation and participation goals, and providing them with the necessary tools and support to achieve them.
• Developing and implementing online meetings and discussions for chapter directors nationwide.
• Developing and implementing chapter executive training.
• Coordinating our network of mentors.
• Facilitating on-going student leadership development through the MX Leaders’ Initiative (online knowledge centre, annual conference, web conferencing, and mentoring program).
• Helping youth leaders develop their leadership skills.

Track and measure program outcomes by:
• Gathering and analyzing results to assess program outcomes (participation rates, donations, etc) and development opportunities.
• Managing programs to achieve results on budget and on time.
• Gathering and sharing information about youth volunteerism, food security, poverty reduction, and citizenship among national network.



REQUIREMENTS:
 University degree, college diploma in a related field.
 1-3 years full time experience recruiting, developing, leading, and evaluating teams larger than five members.
 Experience working with youth aged 17-25.
 Demonstrated ability to coordinate volunteer resources, and create volunteer management strategies.
 Proven ability to take initiative and engage in active learning.
 Excellent communication skills in oral (including public speaking), interpersonal and written forums.
 Hands-on and collaborative approach to problem solving and proven ability develop creative but practical solutions to difficult challenges.
 Proven ability to lead and manage both large and small scale projects with limited resources.
 Experience in program evaluation and measurement.
 Exceptional computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and ease in using the Internet.
 Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask, able to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
 Strong understanding of project/program management techniques and methodologies is an asset.
 Previous fundraising and grant-writing experience and strong understanding of not-for-profit organization models and operational issues is an asset.
 Previous experience in event planning or conference organization is an asset.
 Familiarity with the issue of hunger and food insecurity in Canada is an asset.

Ideal candidate is self-aware and self-motivated, making her/him able to succeed in a fast-paced and changing environment. This dynamic individual has a passion for attacking new challenges and an ability to see opportunities to grow the organization and achieve its current and long-term objectives. Preference will be given to candidates that have experience with project and volunteer management and experience working with youth.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The successful candidate will be working as an integral part of an organization with two additional staff members. Meal Exchange is a professional but informal environment which is fast-paced and continually changing as the organization grows.

Ability to travel (frequently within the GTA and occasionally across Canada) and flexibility in scheduling for weekday and occasional weekend events (day and evening) will be needed. High degree of personal interaction with staff, mentors, volunteers, and board members, is critical to this position.
